Police: 3 intruders arrested at pot grow house
Police investigating the smell of marijuana at a Cutler Bay condo Wednesday found three men trying to break in, according to investigators.
Officers went to a first-floor condo near 197th Street and Southwest 103rd Court after receiving a tip reporting a smell of marijuana there. They arrived at about the same time that three men were attempting an invasion at the home, police said.
No residents were there at the time.
The three men were taken into custody, police said.
Officers discovered about 50 pounds of marijuana plants in two rooms at the condo. Police said that particular type of marijuana sells for about $5,000 a pound on the street, so the total value of the pot was about $250,000.
Investigators said the marijuana growing setup was relatively simple and did not draw much more electricity than would be normal for the condo.
Police are working to contact the condo’s owner.
A neighbor said she often saw a lot of people coming and going at the home.
